A Simple Guide for Toxic Industrial Waste Generators
The NEA Toxic Industrial Waste (TIW) e-Tracking system is used to electronically track the movement of prescribed toxic industrial waste in Singapore.
The system provides a traceable record from the waste generator to the licensed Toxic Industrial Waste Collector (TIWC), helping companies maintain proper documentation and regulatory compliance.
How Does NEA TIW E-Tracking Work?
1. Identify Your Waste
First, identify and describe the toxic industrial waste correctly.
Examples include:
- Spent solvents and thinner
- Waste chemicals
- Acidic or alkaline waste
- Chemical sludge
- Contaminated materials
The waste description should accurately reflect the material being collected.
2. Check the E-Tracking Requirement
E-Tracking requirements apply to prescribed TIW when the quantity being transported or consigned for transport exceeds the applicable threshold under the relevant regulations.

3. Engage a Licensed TIW Collector
Use an appropriately licensed Toxic Industrial Waste Collector to collect and transport regulated TIW.
Before collection, ensure the waste is properly:
- Stored
- Packaged
- Labelled
- Segregated from incompatible materials
4. Create the E-Tracking Consignment Note
The TIW generator is responsible for preparing and submitting the electronic consignment note through NEA’s Waste & Resource Management System (WRMS).
Information may include:
- Waste description
- Quantity
- Waste characteristics and hazards
- Collection location
- Collector details
- Collection information
Always check the information carefully before submission.
5. Collection & Acknowledgement
The licensed collector collects the waste and the consignment is recorded through the e-Tracking system.
The completed electronic record provides a traceable record of the waste movement.
